Nondiffracting vortex-beams in a birefringent chiral crystal.
A vector-wave analysis of nondiffracting beams propagating along a birefringent chiral crystal for the case of tensor character of both the optical activity and linear birefringence is presented. We have written characteristic equations and found propagation constants and amplitude parameters of the eigenmodes. The characteristic curves have anomalous zones described by an isotropic point or a ...
متن کاملPseudo-nondiffracting beams generated by radial harmonic functions
A pseudo-nondiffracting beam (PNDB) is characterized by an almost constant intensity along a finite propagation distance and a beamlike shape in its transverse dimensions. In other words, the intensity distribution is distributed as a sword of light. There are several methods for achieving a PNDB. From the viewpoint of geometrical optics, a sword beam has been demonstrated by axicon.1 With diff...
متن کاملApplication of nondiffracting beams to wireless optical communications
In wireless optical communications, information is carried by coherent laser beams propagating through the free space. In realized communication channels, the standard beams created directly in the laser resonator are utilized. In recent time, an increasing attention has been focused on the so-called nondiffracting beams generated by auxiliary optical systems. In this paper, the theoretical and...
متن کاملDivergence of optical vortex beams.
We show, both theoretically and experimentally, that the propagation of optical vortices in free space can be analyzed by using the width [w(z)] of the host Gaussian beam and the inner and outer radii of the vortex beam at the source plane (z=0) as defined in [Opt. Lett.39, 4364 (2014)10.1364/OL.39.004364OPLEDP0146-9592]. We also studied the divergence of vortex beams, considered as the rate of...
متن کاملShaped nondiffracting beams.
We demonstrate that nondiffracting beams can be generated with an arbitrary transverse shape. In particular, we show that the azimuthal complex modulation of the angular spectra of Helmholtz-Gauss wave fields constitutes a degree of freedom sufficient to tailor nondiffracting beams with an intensity pattern of choice.
